THE CLUB

Our History

HoCo Girls Club Lacrosse began in June 2014 as a collaboration between Howard County Recreation & Parks and two HCLP board members, each with a daughter ready for the next level, who were not satisfied with the particular atmosphere, high costs, and limited opportunities to play competitive girls club level lacrosse in/or around Howard County at that time.

Backed with the support of HCRP and the already acclaimed HoCo Boys Club Lacrosse Program; the idea of starting a girls club lacrosse program to play against established elite clubs was an exciting and ambitious challenge.

Being new to the club scene at that time gave them a fresh & unique perspective that allowed them to think outside of the box and take appropriate risks when making decisions about the direction of the program. They read anything and everything they got their hands on, studied the game on many levels, and asked lots and lots of questions. Coinciding with their “on the fly” education they also surrounded themselves with experienced knowledgeable advisors, friends, and coaches all as equally passionate about the girls game. Tryouts were held that August yielding 4 HoCo Girls teams ready for Fall 2014.

Our Mission

HoCo Girls Club Lacrosse is a unique club lacrosse program; we are devoted to the game – and to its players. Our belief is that every player should be offered an opportunity to participate at high levels of competition in a cost-effective environment while focusing on player development.

Our focus for players of all ages is player development of skills and game awareness. We strive to help every player improve as a lacrosse player and teammate, on and off the field.

DIRECTOR - Melissa Zohdi

Born and raised in Ellicott City, Melissa is a graduate of Centennial High School where she was a state champion volleyball player. She played multiple sports growing up, including club volleyball and lacrosse. Melissa attended Towson University where she worked in sales and marketing and earned her teaching degree.

After teaching 3rd grade in Montgomery County for several years, Melissa switched to a career in pharmaceutical sales with Pfizer as both a Healthcare Representative and a Specialty Representative with Howard County as her territory. After having her three kids, she has been working in sales and marketing part time as well as volunteering as room parent and team manager for her children.

Melissa currently resides in Sykesville with her husband, Nick, and their 3 children, Caden, Brycen, and Mila. Nick is the Head Coach of HoCo Boys 2030 Black and their son, Brycen, is a 2030 Black player. They are excited to be a part of the HoCo family!

RECRUITING DIRECTOR/
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR- Chrissy Lombard Adair

Chrissy is a graduate of Mt. Hebron High School. She went on to play lacrosse at Boston University where she was a 3 time All-American, 3-time Player of the year for America East, America East Rookie of the year. She was inducted into the BU hall of fame in 2012.

After college, Chrissy went on to coach at the newly established D1 program George Washington University. She was the assistant for 3 years and promoted to Head Coach. She was awarded Coach of the Year twice for Atlantic 10 during her tenure as Head Coach at GW.

Chrissy left GW to start a family while still volunteering to coach and giving lacrosse lessons. She helped coach at her alma alter Mount Hebron and also at HoCo before becoming the director of HoCo Girls lacrosse club. She stepped down as director in 2023 to pursue coaching at the High School level. Chrissy is going into her 2nd year as Head Coach at Glenelg Country School. She is also the Head Coach of HoCo 2035 Black team where she coaches her daughter Remy.

Chrissy is married to Hunter Adair and they have three kids, Greyson, Ramsey and Remy.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR- Becky Groves

Becky is a graduate of Liberty HS where she was a three-sport athlete. She was Carroll County Athlete of the Year, High School All-American, All-Metro, All-County, and Liberty High School Female Athlete of the Year, and is a member of the Liberty High School and Carroll County Hall of Fames. She continued her lacrosse career at Towson University where she became Towson’s most decorated lacrosse player of all-time, while majoring in physical education. She was the Colonial Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and the Tigers’ Female Rookie Athlete of the Year in 2003. She was honored as the 2005 and 2006 CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s lacrosse. She was named 1st team All-CAA in 2004 and 2005 and 2nd team in 2003 and 2006. She was the 2005 Doc Minnegan Scholarship Award recipient, IWLCA All-American, Inside Lacrosse All-American, Towson’s Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 2006, and the TAF Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2006. In 2010, Becky was named to the CAA’s prestigious Women’s Lacrosse 25th Anniversary Team. She is also a member of the Towson University Hall of Fame and Greater Baltimore Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Becky is entering her 16th season at Century High School and the 13th as Head Coach. The lacrosse program has won 9 State Titles, 4 during her tenure as a head coach (2012, 2015, 2017, 2022) and 2 as an assistant (2009, 2010). She has received many coaching honors including VSN Lacrosse Coach of the Year, All-Metro Lacrosse and Volleyball Coach of the Year, US Lacrosse Coach of the Year, NFHS Lacrosse Coach of the Year, and Carroll County Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Becky has a son and daughter and coaches them in soccer and lacrosse.
